Goodbye, 2023. Welcome, 2024!

The weather has been wonderfully mild and sunny here in Bulgaria, whereas in the UK it has been colder and peeing down, as per usual. Recently we have been for some splendid walks in the woodland around Veliko Tarnovo. (That naughty little fat Plovdiv dog also enjoyed herself.) Some of the walks are ones that I have done with my friend Peter, but some of them are quite new ones and he will enjoy them, I think, when he has yet another summer holiday in Bulgaria this year.

On the subject of an overweight and pampered pooch, Tina was very frightened by all of the fireworks on New Year’s Eve. She ran under the bed in our bedroom and would not come out. When Irena finally managed to pull her out, Tina refused to sleep in her own bed.

Although our dear neighbours, Vincent and Mariana, have been spending the New Year at their house in Daveri, it very much looks as though The Boss will not want to move back to our house until March at the earliest.

There is a total mess and mud everywhere just along the road from us, near the metal suspension bridge. Adrian says that there is going to be a new (and rather large) bridge constructed there, although I do not understand why. As well as digging up the road, the workmen have smashed up a lot of the woodland along the bank of the river. Most of the work still remains to be done, I would guess, but of course they have left the hardest bits for the winter! When is it all going to be finished? That is anyone’s guess. The motorway from Sofia to Varna is supposed to go near to VT and of course that has not been finished and probably never will be!

My blog goes from strength to strength, with more than 100,000 “hits”. The other day there were 350 hits in twenty-four hours. Someone must be reading it, I suppose, but I hardly ever find any comments that anyone has written.

  3. I enjoy reading your blog, so please keep it up! Yours is an interesting journey, crossing countries and continents, only to lend in the middle of Bulgaria, a very beautiful country indeed. I hope you have a wonderful and healthy 2024!
