Bulgaria with Noodles

One of the best things about being an expat is that often you really do not know much about what is happening in the UK. Is the sitaution really so bad back in Blighty? How is that things have fallen to pieces so quickly? Or has the present crisis been coming for a long while? Although Rishi Sunak seems to be a decent sort of chap and a big improvement on that useless Liz Truss, I suppose that the problems in the UK are just too big and there are so many of them. Oh yes and I heard that all of the driving test examiners are on strike as well.  My friend Peter sent me a copy of my bank statement. Yes, it does look as though my TPS pension has gone up a bit. Maybe some inflation in the UK is not such a bad thing.   Certainly here in Bulgaria the health service is NOT falling to bits. Okay, yes, it could be better and some of the hospitals and clinics are a bit shabby, putting it mildly, but really the doctors and the nurses seem to do a good job. Yesterday, in the afternoon, I got back from the airport. I think that my brother Andrew really enjoyed his little holiday in Bulgaria. It was the first time he had been here, so it was quite unusual for him. Yes, Andy and I did some of the things that we did when Peter was here, but we also did some new things as well. It was not interesting for me to see Tsaravets, but he really had to see it.  We also went to Emen Canyon and Tryavna, so we could have the excellent Indian meal that poor Peter never had the chance to eat! Savoya Spice is only open for a few days each week. The onion bhajis were particularly good.  Andy also cooked a superb lasagne and we  scoffed that one evening with my friend Adrian.  We also had lunch at a new restaurant in Arbanassi, “The Wine Club”. It is really good and I want to take Irena there. After lunch, we went for an amazing walk with Adrian and Sisi, his doggie, along the cliffs that overlook Veliko Tarnovo. Absolutely incredible view...

Well, my brother Andrew says that it is not actually going to be published until the end of January. but I must scribble a few lines to congratulate him on having his first novel in print. It is rather splendid to have an author in the family. Well done, bro. In case you are wondering, it is a murder mystery tale, a sort of Inspector Barnaby in the New Forest instead of Midsomer. So what comes next? The TV serial? Or the Hollywood blockbuster?
