Neighbours


Life is not too bad, I suppose, but the garden is still terribly dry and Mark and his workmen still have not replaced the wooden columns. He has not even given me a date when he will make a start on this! 


We have some new neighbours. Well, they do not always live just opposite our house, but quite often recently they have been there. Marine has a lot of these cows and they are all going to be made into very, very expensive Wagyu beef. Wagyu is the Rolls Royce of beef. Originally Wagyu cows came from Japan and their beef really is the very best meat that you can eat.

As for Vincent, his derrick or drilling rig or whatever you want to call it is getting higher and higher. Occasionally he climbs up to the top of it and whacks it with a hammer. While we are on the subject of drilling, Irena has to go to the dentist again next week and she is not really looking forward to that.
Yes, it is dreadful that this Charlie Kirk person has been murdered in America. Even though he was a big friend of Trump, murder is an appalling crime and he leaves behind a widow and two children. However, Charlie Kirk was a prominent Republican and the Republican Party gets lots of money from the NRA, the National Rifle Association. That is why the Republicans always oppose any gun safety laws. Yes, it is dreadful that Charlie Kirk has been murdered, but almost every week there is yet another school shooting in America and more children are killed. Whenever there is a school shooting, the Republicans talk about “thoughts and prayers” for the victims’ families. How flipping useless is that? 
And Charlie Kirk told everyone that he was a Christian. Well, in the Gospels I read that Jesus went around healing people, but Trump and the Republicans want to stop Medicaid (Obamacare), so that poor people in the States cannot afford to go to the hospital.
On a lighter note, you will not be pleased to learn that the Ukrainians’ attacks on Russian oil refineries and oil pipelines are continuing. The lines of cars at Russian petrol stations are getting longer every day. Yes, of course some countries like India and China will be a bit disappointed if they cannot buy Russian oil, as Putin was selling it to them at a substantial discount, but I daresay that there might be one or two other countries in the world that could supply them with some oil.
The CPS is the Crown Prosecution Service. The CPS deals with really serious crimes and ones that have lots of victims. Some of Jimmy Saville’s victims contacted the CPS, but the person who was in charge of the CPS decided that there was insufficient evidence for a prosecution. And who was in charge of the CPS at the time? Keir Starmer. Starmer is incredibly unpopular and I cannot help wondering whether a General Election is not too far away.

Not so long ago, I wrote a post for my blog called Educaring . Please do not misunderstand me. I really do believe that teachers, youth workers, parents (and indeed anyone involved with young people) all have a duty to protect children and teenagers, to keep them safe. As I argued in my previous posting, I also believe that the task of protecting children is becoming more and more difficult - almost impossible, in fact. Yes, the Internet has a lot to do with it, I am sure, but there is another problem that is hardly ever discussed.  In a nutshell, anyone who genuinely cares about children finds it very hard to imagine how evil and how subtle child molesters and pedophiles really are. On the Cards, Part 1

Getting our new Bulgarian residency cards from the Microwave Oven Woman Rejoice! Let's celebrate. Hallelujah! At long last, the Microwave Woman has given us our new Bulgarian residency cards (BRCs). As a special treat, just in case you do not know what a BRC looks like, here is my old one.  My dear wife suggested that I should "black out" certain bits, as there are lots of evil people out there on the Internet, all gathering my personal and financial details in order to swindle me or involve me in some dreadful scandal or some such nonsense. Of course, no one who reads my blog could ever do such a nasty thing!   Getting our new BRCs means that we can go ahead with our applications for our Russian visas. Then, maybe two or three weeks later, our passports will be returned to us, with new Russian visas stuck into them. A Eulogy for My Old Latin Teacher, Roger Terence Davies

RTD, in his later years The great Mark O'Gorman, aka the One and Only Markoi, has asked me to say a few words about Roger Davies and so, of course, I must obey. For duty, duty must be done The rule applies to everyone Though painful though that duty be To shirk the task, oh fiddledee! A much younger RTD Roger Terence Davies, RTD, the Rather Tubby  Dinosaur or dinosaurus pinguior, was my favourite teacher at Lord Wandsworth College, otherwise known as LWC, or the London Water Closet, as I usually called it when I was a student here. RTD taught Latin and double Latin with him on a Friday was the highlight of my week. Not surprisingly, I went on from GCSE O Level Latin to do Latin A level and then Classics at Oxford. Since graduating, I have been a primary teacher in one or two places around the world.
