Winter is here!


The weather has been decidedly wintry for the last few days. We had a fair bit of snow and some of it has not melted, as the temperatures have been so low.

Happy anniversary, Mr Putin! Three years of war, destruction, death, mutilation, wives becoming widows and children losing their fathers. What a bastard! What a scumbag! It made me so angry when Trump said that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was really Ukraine’s own fault, just as Hitler tried to say that it was all the fault of Poland. (The Nazis arranged a number of "false flag" operations, so that they could have excuses for their aggression and their attacks on Poland and other European countries.) 

The good news is that the Americans are gradually learning what a piece of filth Trump really is. Elon Musk is even worse. The mid-term elections are not so very far away and a lot of Republican senators and congressmen are going to face re-election. It should be interesting. As for Europe, my guess is that many countries will follow Canada’s excellent example. The new German chancellor seems to be disgusted with Trump. 
There is a famous British comedian / satirist living in the USA. He has his own TV show and some people said that his criticisms meant that he did not love America. He replied that because he loves America, he wants it to be better.

Even though I took my old X-Trail to the Toyota garage for a service, yesterday morning it would not start. Well, it was minus 14 C overnight and I think that most car batteries would struggle with such a low temperature. The car is just parked in the street outside our apartment, so I was not really surprised when the thing would not start. It did not take me long to rig up the charger and top up the battery again.
Out of curiosity, I was doing some research about the Yantra River. This is the river that flows through Veliko Tarnovo. There is an adventure holiday company that organizes kayaking trips from the famous Kolyu Fitcheto bridge at Byala. Then I thought to myself, “I have got a kayak. Peter and I could do that!” The trip looks really good and the river’s current is not too fast. Perhaps I could persuade my friend Adrian to drop us at Byala and then we could paddle downstream towards the Danube, and then we could phone Adrian and he could collect us from Beltsov.

Not so long ago, I wrote a post for my blog called Educaring . Please do not misunderstand me. I really do believe that teachers, youth workers, parents (and indeed anyone involved with young people) all have a duty to protect children and teenagers, to keep them safe. As I argued in my previous posting, I also believe that the task of protecting children is becoming more and more difficult - almost impossible, in fact. On the Cards, Part 1

Getting our new Bulgarian residency cards from the Microwave Oven Woman Rejoice! Let's celebrate. Hallelujah! At long last, the Microwave Woman has given us our new Bulgarian residency cards (BRCs). As a special treat, just in case you do not know what a BRC looks like, here is my old one.  My dear wife suggested that I should "black out" certain bits, as there are lots of evil people out there on the Internet, all gathering my personal and financial details in order to swindle me or involve me in some dreadful scandal or some such nonsense. Of course, no one who reads my blog could ever do such a nasty thing!   Getting our new BRCs means that we can go ahead with our applications for our Russian visas. Then, maybe two or three weeks later, our passports will be returned to us, with new Russian visas stuck into them. The Wendy House

I seem to have become a sort of unofficial "Agony Uncle" for the  Facebook "Moving to Bulgaria" group. Here are a few words of advice I recently gave to a lady called Wendy.
