Back to the Future

Is it really possible that Donald Trump could be re-elected as the President of the United States in 2024? In some ways, it is difficult to imagine this happening, as Trump is currently facing no less than ninety-one different criminal charges, some of which might result in a long prison sentences, if he were to be found guilty.

On the other hand, I have seen quite a few YouTube videos in which someone asks members of the American public some fairly simple questions. The incorrect answers that are given show levels of utter stupidity and moronic thickness that are almost unimaginable. I have often wondered whether these videos are actually faked and that the people who are giving these brainless answers have been bribed or tricked into saying such silly things. But what would be the point of that?

If these YouTube videos are genuine, then they suggest that there is a most unpleasant reality, namely that a significant number of Americans are in fact staggeringly stupid, uneducated and more or less brain-dead. If this really is the case, then it does appear to be quite likely that Trump will indeed become President once more.

As you probably know, there is yet another mass shooting in America almost every week. I was intrigued to learn that Switzerland has a level of gun ownership, in proportion to its population, that is almost as high as that of the USA. However, you hardly ever hear of any mass shooting incidents in Switzerland. Swiss shooters don’t go into a shopping mall or a school and commit mass murder. Why not? Perhaps it is because the Swiss have some sensible laws relating to firearms and how and when they can be used. So why doesn’t America introduce similar gun laws to those in Switzerland?

Okay, so the Second Amendment in the Constitution says that the American citizens have the right to bear arms. Yes, but gun-lovers in Switzerland also get plenty of opportunities to own and to fire their guns, without having any mass shootings. Again, this mental paralysis in America, this inability to have laws that make for responsible gun ownership, suggests that a large proportion of the American public must be appallingly stupid, insanely thoughtless and lacking any common sense. In other words, they are ideal Trump voters. I am sure that there are many good and intelligent people in America, but overall they must be in the minority.

So why is it so difficult to introduce sensible firearms legislation in the US? Every year, there are car crashes in America, as there are in all countries, but seat belts, airbags and other safety measures have reduced the number of fatalities and serious injuries. In the US, as it is everywhere else, it is against the law to drive a car when you are drunk or if you do not have a driving licence. There are red lights and speed limits. I think that most American drivers can still drive their cars, even with these traffic rules and regulations. In other words, sensible rules are not a threat to your freedom: they guarantee that you can in fact enjoy your freedom and that other people can enjoy theirs. So if safety regulations can work for cars, why can't they do the same for guns in the USA? And if mass shootings are going to continue forever and ever in the land of the free and the home of the brave, then doesn't it seem very likely that Trump will be re-elected?

Yes, we are still in Veliko Tarnovo. I must say that I am fed up with living in our apartment and I am longing for the day when we can move back to our country house in Daveri.

As for the reimbursement from the insurance company for the damage that was done to my old Nissan X-Trail, I finally received a letter. It informed me that some money had indeed been deposited in my bank account, but it was 300 leva less than the total bill for the car repairs.

  1. Trump becoming a President again doesn't bare thinking about. Similar, but not the same is bringing back Johnson or Truss to be a PMs. It fills me with a horror, but it's never going to happen. Sadly, there is a big possibility of Trump winning. Mind boggles.

    1. Well, David Cameron has indeed made a big comeback, but will Trump make an even bigger one? The point that I was trying to make in my blog is that Trump's popularity and possible return to the White House in 2024 are part and parcel of a much bigger problem in America. There is something much more scary than AI, Artificial Intelligence, and that is Natural Stupidity.
