Only five bedrooms and three bathrooms

The big news is that we are seriously thinking about selling our house in Kalotina and buying another country house closer to Veliko Tarnovo. It has been a hard decision, as we both love our home in Kalotina that we bought sixteen years ago. We have put a lot of time and effort (and money!) into improving the house and of course we will not get back all of that cash when (and if!) we manage to sell it. A new bathroom, attic, a kitchen, a garage, a central heating system: I just do not know how much we have spent on our house over the years.

First we were very excited about a five-bedroomed house that was on sale for 79,000 euros. It was about 25km from VT. It was a little bit too big for us and the garden, nearly 1500 square metres, is a mess. Then I thought about a house up in the mountains. It was a lot cheaper, with an asking price of only 27,000 euros and the views really were splendid. The bad news? Irena did not like it because she thought that the rooms would be too small and pokey.

The good news is that we are both crazy about a newly-built bungalow that is close to Emen Canyon, one of the most beautiful and spectacular places in all of Bulgaria (and maybe all of Europe too!) Bulgaria’s answer to the Grand Canyon has it all: wonderful views, wooden bridges, caves full of bats, a waterfall and a pool where you can go for a swim.

    You didn't say why you would do that in the first place since you love your house in Kalotina so much...

      Kalotina is lovely, but we feel that our future is In Veliko Tarnovo. Although Sofia is okay, my job is coming to an end and we want to make a new start in VT.

Getting our new Bulgarian residency cards from the Microwave Oven Woman Rejoice! Let's celebrate. Hallelujah! At long last, the Microwave Woman has given us our new Bulgarian residency cards (BRCs). As a special treat, just in case you do not know what a BRC looks like, here is my old one.  My dear wife suggested that I should "black out" certain bits, as there are lots of evil people out there on the Internet, all gathering my personal and financial details in order to swindle me or involve me in some dreadful scandal or some such nonsense. . Yes, he was supposed to be on holiday, but while Peter was with us he fixed the lights in two bathrooms, mowed all three lawns and repaired the hob of the cooker in our apartment in VT.  Now he is back in the UK, having a rest.

Educaring, Part 2

Not so long ago, I wrote a post for my blog called Educaring . Please do not misunderstand me. I really do believe that teachers, youth workers, parents (and indeed anyone involved with young people) all have a duty to protect children and teenagers, to keep them safe. As I argued in my previous posting, I also believe that the task of protecting children is becoming more and more difficult - almost impossible, in fact. Yes, the Internet has a lot to do with it, I am sure, but there is another problem that is hardly ever discussed.  In a nutshell, anyone who genuinely cares about children finds it very hard to imagine how evil and how subtle child molesters and pedophiles really are. I think that is probably why many teachers and parents just do not know when a pedophile is "grooming" a child and why they often do not believe it, even when confronted with the unpleasant truth.
